Sassi which means ‘stones’ is known by all and sundry as the center of historical events in the Matera. If you ever visit the place, you will notice many gardens which hang on the stone caves. In the Renaissance Era, these gardens served as grave sites. People were living below the caves while they buried their dead directly above their heads! Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
