The Gran Paradiso National Park is home to the Alpine ibex which are usually found grazing especially in summer months. They retreat to lower elevations during winter months. The ibex are protected by the park to prevent them from going into extinction. In addition, other animal species like the weasel. Eurasian badger, wolf, and chamois are very dominant in this area.
