The Dolomites is a mountain region located in northeastern part of Italy. The mountain range makes up a part of the Southern Limestone Alps. The upland area features steep slopes, craggy rocks, precipitous gorges and countless screes. It is said that the Dolomites are over 250 million years old and they cover a total land mass of about 1,419 kilometres square. These are some interesting facts about the magnificent mountains. The mountain range contains both dolomites and limestone hence the name. Dolomites have different monikers. In Italian they are called ‘The Dolomiti’.
