The cathedral was built on the gravesite of noblemen. The burial site is the resting place of Duke of Montferrat, an Italian born duke. It is also the burial site of Count of Asti, the younger brother of the duke. It is believed that the Count of Asti died of malaria. The marble which houses their remains were built by Felice Festa.
