The building of the current Cathedral started in 1687, and it was started by a famous architect; Domenico Sportono who later died before it was completed. Sportono is known for his works in the Baroque cathedral of Cagliari which can be referred to as the doppelganger of the Ales Cathedral. During the 18th century, the building was filled with a variety of marble furnishings. There are also some beautiful frescoes in the interior of the church. The renovation of the church from the beginning of the 20th century took over 20 years to complete. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
