In the beginning of the 17th century, the cathedral was dedicated to Saint Eustace by then Archbishop of Bari and Canosa, Archibishop Ascanio Gesualdo. St. Eustace also called ST. Eustathios was a 1st-century priest and soldier who was called Placidus before he converted to Roman Catholicism.
