The Cathedral can best be described as the perfect Romanesque-Renaissance structure. The 12th-century church was built in Romanesque style; the Cathedral boasts of semi-circular arches. The structure was erected on the ruins of an ancient temple that is believed to be of Messapian origin, an ancient Greek tribe.
