In the heart of Acerenza in the district of Potenza and the Basilicata of Italy lies an ancient cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and martyr, St. Canius. The cathedral whose construction begun under the supervision of the Archbishop of Cluny, is currently the seat of the Archbishop of Acerenza. This cathedral is one of the most iconic Romanesque monuments in Italy and these are some interesting facts about it. The Acerenza Cathedral is believed to have been in existence since the 11th century. The site on which the structure was erected has been in existence since antiquity.
