One of the most important buildings in Ortona. The church is a Roman Catholic cathedral and minor basilica with a magnificent interior and attractive exterior. For a while, it was recognized as the episcopal seat of the diocese of Ortona. However, it currently is a co-cathedral in the diocese of Lanciano-Ortona. The vico dell’ Orologio portal, which can be found in the exterior part of the building dates back to the Swabian era. Holy sacrament chapel, the ancient tombstone of the tomb of St. Thomas in Chios, and Sagrestia Maggiore stained glass window are aspects of the church no one wants to miss. However, the most important thing about the church is the relics of saint of Ortona, Saint Thomas the Apostle (Tommaso), which was brought to Ortona in the 13th century by a sailor and are kept safely in the Cathedral.
