The history of Melrose and Rugby are so intertwined that there is no way of separating them. The town is associated with many important Rugby stars including Ned Haig, the founder of Rugby Sevens who moved here when he was a kid. Craig Chalmers, Keith Robertson (Scottish rugby union), Jim Telfer, Stuart Hogg, are all the associated with Melrose one the way or the other.
