Like other idyllic archeological ruins in Greece, the island of Lesbos has quite a few archeological sites which include the cave of Kagiani, a Neolithic cave. The cave of Kagiani is believed to be a dwelling place for shepherds in primeval times. Another archeological site is Chalakies, a Neolithic settlement. The Thermi and Levri habitation have been in existence since 3000-1000 BC. There are three spectacular castles that serve as a testament to the medieval history of the island.
