Elba also called Isola d’Elba is located along the Tyrrhenian Sea in Tuscany, Italy very close to Corsica. It is the largest island on the archipelago of Italy. Elba ranks third on the largest island in Italy, after Sardinia and Sicily. These are some of the exciting facts about Elba. In ancient times, the Island of Elba was called ‘Ilva.’ It was so named because of the original inhabitants of the island called the ‘Ligures Ilvates.’ It was called Aethalia by the Greeks because of the fumes provided by the furnaces which produced iron ores.
