Erosion is a big threat to the future of Civita di Bagnoregio. In the past decades, although authorities are trying to erect steel supports to halt further damage. This will stop some of the buildings that are already crumbling and falling into the valley below. In the winter, the population of the town is around 7 while in summer it can rise to at least 100 people. The city has been placed on the World Monuments Fund’s 2006 watch list of the 100 most endangered sites.
