Chios Island is the main producer of Mastic in Greece and some surrounding countries. Though mastic resin grows all over the Mediterranean, Chios Mastic is the only natural resin of all the resins in Greece. The trees which produce this mastic last for over a century. In times of old, the mastic trees were used for pharmaceutical purposes. The mastic trees are found in a wide array of villages on the island called ‘Mastihohoria’ which means ‘Mastic Villages’.
