You can’t visit Avezzano without paying a visit to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Pietraquaria. It is regarded as one of the most important landmarks in the town, because of the significance of its value to history. You’ll have to climb the mountain for an hour to get to the church, but it’s all worth it. While on your way, you get to see the entire town from up the hill, which is a magnificent view you will always remember. The church which is situated on Mount Salviano was rebuilt and enlarged several times during the centuries, especially after it was damaged by the 1915 Avezzano earthquake.
