During the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, other cities like Pompeii, Stabiae and Torre Annunziata alongside the Herculaneum were destroyed. However, it was discovered that the survival rates of the inhabitants of the Herculaneum were high. This is because it is widely believed that many residents fled to Naples before the flow caught up with them. In addition to this, very few skeletons were discovered during excavation compared to other sites like Pompeii which had numerous skeletons.
