The villa of Papyri is one of the hallmark buildings of the Herculaneum, and it is believed to be the abode of Julius Caesar’s father-in-law; Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesonninus. The villa is so called because some papyrus scrolls which had been blackened by ash were discovered in the building. The papyrus scrolls also named ‘the Herculaneum papyri’ now sits at the National Library in Naples. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
