The wooden Motte and Bailey castle which is the first castle at York was accounted to have been built in only eight days. The castle, now known as Clifford’s tower was hurriedly built in the urban environs. Hundreds of houses were destroyed for the castle to be erected. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
