Tower Bridge is 800ft (244 m) long with two towers that are 213 feet (65 m) high each, and it is constructed on piers. The central span which is 200ft (61 m) between the towers is divided into two bascules of equal length. It can be lifted to an angle of 860 to let river traffic or boat to pass. The bascules, which weigh more than 1,000 tons each, are counterbalanced to reduce the force needed and enable lifting in 5 minutes. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
