When a decision was made to construct this bridge, a design-contest was organized to select the best of them all. More than 50 proposed designs of the bridge were submitted. Several controversies surrounded the evaluation of the designs but in 1884, the one submitted by the City Architect, Sir Horace Jones was approved. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
