More than 40,000 people cross the Tower Bridge on a daily basis. To improve safety, the City of London Corporation imposed a speed restriction of 20mi/hr. (32 km/hr.) and a vehicle weight limit of 18 ton. A camera system is installed on the bridge to monitor the speed limit of vehicles, capturing their plate numbers and for the purpose of penalizing offenders.
