Julius Caesar’s first landing in England, on August 26th, 55BC, was at the White Cliffs of Dover. At his arrival, he was met by an armed force, and he had to retreat to access the land through another shore. It wasn’t until almost 100 years later before the Romans eventually conquered Britain.
