This temple was constructed in 426BC and was dedicated to Athena Nike. It stood tall for 2000 years till the Ottomans destroyed and used its marbles to fortify the wall of Propylaea. In 1834, when the Greeks got their Independence, the wall was demolished and the Temple was erected again. In the 1990s, the temple underwent massive reconstruction. All the marbles were built in such a way as to resemble the original design of the first architect. The new design is without wings so that the goddess Athena will never leave Athens.
