Believe it or not, the towers of San Gimignano have nicknames, some of which are quite hilarious. For example, the main tower in the town is called Torregrossa or Thick Tower, because it is the biggest and tallest. There is a tower named the twin tower by a family wanting to celebrate the birth of twins, while the angry tower is the tower that was turned into a prison where many angry people lived.
