One of the closest Islands to Athens, Kea provides you with the opportunity to get away from the busy life in the capital city. Also known as Tzia, the Island has several picturesque sceneries including from the small fields, mountains, lush greenery, beautiful villages, watermills, fountains, and beaches. Here are some of the interesting facts about Kea Island. The Panagia Kastriani Monastery is one of the most visited sites in the Island and it was built in the eighteenth century. During the ancient times, about 1700 AD, a light on the top of Kastri hill was spotted by a few sheep herdsmen.
