A tourist from Finland was caught trying to steal an ear of a particular Moai in 2008, at the Anakena beach in Easter Island. The tourist who was 26 years old at that time was reported by a local who saw him carting away the prized artefact. The tourist was fined a huge sum of money and placed under house arrest.
