Walter Long, an important personality of Gillingham, Dorset started a campaign in 1921 to either cover the obscenity of the giant with a leaf or convert it to a simple nude. Interestingly, the campaign gained some traction but was refuted when it got to the home office because they couldn’t act against a scheduled monument.
