8Renovations of Altamura Cathedral

King Robert of Anjou made several renovations to Altamura Cathedral after it was partially destroyed in the 1316 earthquake. Between the 14th-15th centuries, the famous main portal was added to the building. The cathedral underwent great changes in 1534, which include switching the back and front structures around. When it was constructed the first time, the rose window, the portal, main gate were done on the opposite side. The Alter was positioned in the place where the main gate is currently located.
