Herculaneum is a city that was sacked by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius that occurred in 79 AD. Herculaneum was located at Campania in ancient Italy. The city still retained some of its ancient charms after the eruption. Excavations which took place at the site revealed some wooden and organic artefacts. From the findings, it was discovered that this settlement was once a wealthy and flourishing one. These are some interesting facts about the Herculaneum. The Herculaneum was named after Herakles who was also known as Hercules in Latin. This is a strong indicator that the building is of Greek origin.
