L’Aquila is an exciting part of Italy where many tourists like to explore. It’s the capital of the region of Abruzzo and the Province of L’Aquila, with a population of about 70,000 people. These five interesting facts will help you make the right decisions to visit. On the 6th of April, 2009 a magnitude 5.8–5.9ML–6.3Mw hit the city, causing severe devastation. After the turmoil, between 3,000 and 11,000 houses were damaged, some of which are very important to the history and culture of the people. Few months after the earthquake, the city began a massive rebuilding project that saw many buildings reconstructed. The grandeur of the city might be gone, but some of the important historic sites can be seen. Visiting L’Aquila is a great decision because tourists who come here tend to help improve the conditions of the locals and contribute towards resuscitating a city that has existed for millennia.
