Cremona Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral devoted to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Located in Cremona, Lombardy in northern Italy, the Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Cremona. The Baptistery is a significant medieval monument that is connected to the cathedral. Constructed in the year 1167, the baptistery is described by an octagonal plan- a reference to St. Ambrose of Milan’s cult. This symbolizes the 8th day of Resurrection and from then on, Baptism. The building of the baptistery is a combination of Lombard-Gothic and Romanesque styles. The interior of the Baptistery features the 14th-century Crucifix on top of the St. John altar. It also features two wooden statues representing St. Philip Neri and St. John the Baptist by Giovanni Bertesi. A 12th-century sculpture of the Archangel Gabriel is positioned over the ceiling.
