Known as a ‘Butterfly-Shaped Island’, Astypalaia lies in a location where the Cyclades and the Dodecanese meet. The beautiful and idyllic region is known for its history, sunlit beaches, and its whitewashed villages. Astypalaia Island is naturally divided into two sub-islands by land not more than 100 meters wide – Mesa Nisi, the inner Island, is located on the western area of Astypalaia. Exo Nisi, the outer island, is located on the eastern area of Astypalaia. The capital town and port of the Astypalaia Island, Chora is one of Aegean’s most attractive towns, resting on a rock advancing into the sea and forming two bays. In the town, you can easily view the Chora castle as it is the highest building in the area. The castle includes the stunningly white domes of Agios Georgios and Evangelistria churches.
