Euboea is the second largest island in Greece. The island is separated from Boeotia in Greece by the Euripus Strait, its thinnest point. Euboea is one of the narrowest islands in Greece. Euboea is a part of the archipelago which forms the Aegean Islands. These are some interesting facts about Euboea; Like its other siblings, Euboea has had multiple names ever since it was discovered. The island is also called Evia and it is also sometimes called Negroponte. During primeval times, the island was called Dolicche and Macris because of its narrow shape. It was also called other names like Aonia, Ellopia, and Abantis because it was named after the tribes which once dwelled in it. The name ‘Euboea’ was coined from two words ‘Eu’ which means ‘goo’ and ‘Bouc’ which means ‘Ox’. Euboea means land of the well-fed oxen.
