From an imperial and royal palace, the Champs-Élysées was extended over the centuries to create the Champs-Élysées avenue. In 1709, construction of the avenue began, and the place was further expanded. By 1724, the expansion reached the full length and completed, up to the Arc de Triomphe monument.
