The construction of Arc de Triomphe was ordered by Napoleon I and originally designed by a renowned French architect, Jean Chalgrin in 1806. However, both of these men didn’t live to see it completed. Jean-Nicolas Huyot was commissioned to complete Chalgrin’s work after the former died in 1811. The monument was completed in 1836, during the reign of Louis Philippe, about 15 years after the death of Napoleon. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
