Before the Eiffel Tower and the empire state buildings were built, for over 200 years, Lincoln Cathedral retained the title for being the tallest building in the world. It towered over the Great Pyramid of Gaza. In 1311, after the Lincoln Cathedral was completed, it stood proud and tall in the sky, higher than any other structure built by man. When the tallest spire collapsed during stormy weather in 1548 and never got replaced, the Lincoln Cathedral lost its coveted title. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
