Architect Bottini di Casale designed the church in a Lombard-Gothic style. The bell tower took 400years to complete. The present decoration of the church was done after fire engulfed the cathedral and left everything completely ruined in 1925. The decoration contract was awarded to Professor Luigi Morgari.
