In the history of Greece, throwing an apple at a woman means a marriage proposal. If a man threw an apple at a woman, it signified his love. A marriage proposal is underway if the apple gets caught by the woman. Myth has it that the tradition started when Eris, the goddess of tradition threw an apple at Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite and said ‘to the most beautiful one’. They all bribe Paris, the prince of Troy to choose them as the most beautiful but only Aphrodite’s bribe caught Paris’ fancy; Helen of Troy. Aphrodite is referred to as the goddess of love and the apple fruit is very symbolic to her. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
